New Regional CommissionerFirst off and foremost, something to do now and remember always. Take a step back and breath. The details can seem overwhelming. Key is to prioritize. Somethings need to be done right away, some in a later month, and some can be deferred for another year after you get up to speed, get rooted, and begin to (re)build your region to become better than before. This is especially true when you have just had a region dumped in your lap mid-season after the abrupt departure of the previous RC. We hope it never happens but it still does.To become a Regional Commissioner, you need to fill out and send a signed RC Appointment request to your Area Director. It is then forwarded to the Section Director and then National Office. The National office will conduct a background check and prepare internal systems for the likely transition (e.g. eAYSO). The appointment is only provisional until the National Board of Directors (NBOD) next meets and approves the request. If this is a new pilot region, the document was one of the many in the new Pilot region application packet already submitted. If you are a new RC coming into an existing region, get your outgoing RC to provide an orientation, a passing of records, and to set you up as the Assistant RC with full access rights in the eAYSO system. Also, confirm your volunteer registration information in eAYSO is current and you are listed as a registered (active) volunteer. One of the first things as a new regional commissioner you should ask for is a New RC Orientation from your Area Director. This is a sit down, 1:1 with the Area Director to cover all the basics of the organization and your role in it. For regions challenged by large geographic areas, the AD may have to use a Distance Learning technique. If so, make sure you get the materials to review and follow ahead of time. This should include the below items as well as many other reference manuals and books from the AYSO Supply Center.
